Chapter Twelve

The nexus was like this. Rob felt how the power swirled around him, filling him with ice, as that was the primary essence, and fire, life, stone, and lightning. All of that came together, building within Rob and giving him a vast and powerful strength, he had never had before. Some of that power lingered inside of him.

What he detected reminded him of the power that tapped on the barrier between his land. Was it the lightning trying to enter? Why wouldn’t the storm cloud leader have come to him if so?

Rob focused on what he felt around him.

There was more than just one person approaching. Rob saw three figures dressed all in black, with streaks of purple working along their black cloaks. They all had black hair, though the first-person descending had long, black hair, dark skin, and eyes that crackled with the lightning behind her. The other two dropped alongside her, with weapons sheathed at their sides.

Swords?

It felt so strange to see such standard weapons, especially given that Rob forged weapons out of his essence, but perhaps, in their realm, they needed weapons like that.

When they landed, the woman strode over to him, her head held high, her chin tilted as she glowered at him. “Who are you?” she demanded.

Rob felt the essence coming off her. He felt how she drew on it and the power she possessed. She was potent. When he felt storm clouds working around him, he questioned if it was the dragon's blood before deciding it couldn’t be. But since she was close to him, he couldn’t help but wonder if he was closer to the truth than he realized. There was some aspect to what she was doing and summoning that struck him as familiar to his power level.

Not to his ice power, though, but to a different power coursing within him.

Lightning.

Rob couldn’t be a dragon blood of the storm cloud. But maybe the power he absorbed within the nexus made him something more than he would’ve been otherwise. Maybe it became a part of him in a way that gave him an aspect of power that reflected what somebody in this land would have.

“My name is Rob Firaln.”

She watched him, then glanced at the tereagal and drew upon lightning again, but Rob drew it to himself, holding it inside. He refused to let her summon lightning. More than that, he refused to allow her to use it against the tereagal. He sensed the tereagal’s concern at the sudden burst of power, as they seemed to recognize what was happening and also seemed to recognize Rob fought against what she was doing, resisting the way she summoned power.

“That’s unnecessary.”

“Who are you?” she asked again.

“I’ve told you I am. Who are you?”

She tipped her head to the side, glancing at the tereagal, then surveyed Rob from head to toe, appraising him like he saw his father appraising a raven wolf, trying to decide its worth. Finally, she glanced at the others, who moved around Rob.
